It’s official! Dr. Carla Hayden is the first woman and African American Librarian of Congress

On Wednesday, Dr. Hayden was officially sworn in as the nation’s 14th Librarian of Congress. Nominated by President Obama to lead the world’s largest library, Hayden explained at her swearing-in ceremony: “As a descendant of people who were denied the right to read, to now have the opportunity to serve and lead the institution that is the national symbol of knowledge, is a historic moment.”

Indeed.

Congratulations, Dr. Hayden! Thank you for blazing a trail and being an inspiration to Black girls everywhere.
