Michelle Obama and DJ D-Nice Are Hosting A Virtual Couch Party To Encourage Voter Registration

March 25, 2020

We love this!

Popular DJ D-Nice made history last week with his #ClubQuarantine, a live streamed DJ set that lasted nearly 9 hours and drew over 100,000 people along with iconic celebrity attendees such as Chaka Khan, Stevie Wonder and even Michelle Obama.

Now, the Forever First Lady has teamed up with the Boogie Down Productions DJ to host another party, this one aimed at getting people registered to vote.

The virtual couch party is a partnership between Nice and Obama’s When We All Vote initiative. The nonprofit was launched in 2018 with the mission of utilizing grassroots efforts to change the culture around voting and close the race and age gap among voters. Co-chairs of the organization include singer Janelle Monae, actress Tracee Ellis Ross, NBA player Chris Paul, actress Kerry Washington, and producer Shonda Rhimes.

During the couch party, volunteers will have an opportunity to join Obama and others as they text eligible voters across the country and attempt to get them registered to vote, all while D-Nice spins another legendary set!

Obama took to social media to share the event with her 37 million followers saying, “In this tough time, music can comfort us and bring us together. That’s why I can’t wait for the @whenweallvote #CouchParty with a featured live set from @dnice. He’ll keep our volunteers motivated with some great tunes as they help register voters. Thank you for all you do @dnice!”

According to Essence, more than 3,000 volunteers have already signed up and the goal is to text 50,000 potential voters by 9pm EST.

To join the party and volunteer visit weall.vote/couchparty. Training starts at 6pm EST. Party starts at 6:30pm!

Catch you on the couch!
