NBA icon Michael Jordan is donating $1 million to Hurricane Dorian relief efforts in the Bahamas. The six-time championship winner released a statement via Twitter announcing the donation.

“I am devastated to see the destruction that Hurricane Dorian has brought to the Bahamas, where I own property and visit frequently. My heart goes out to everyone who is suffering and those who have lost loved ones,” Jordan said.

Last year, the sports icon donated $2 million to help those impacted by Hurricane Florence in his native state of North Carolina. He also got members of the Charlotte Hornets, the team that he owns, to help in the efforts by packing and shipping off relief boxes to those in need.

The former Chicago Bulls star is still deciding which nonprofits to donate to where his money will be best served.  Jordan said he will be tracking the situation in the Bahamas closely and sends a message of hope to the people saying they are “strong and resilient.”

Jordan isn’t the only celebrity supporting the relief efforts. We recently reported about Tyler Perry’s generous efforts to help local Bahamians, using his private plane to transport food and other supplies to those in need.
