April 27, 2022

He’s won more than 20 Emmys over the course of his career!

The Emmys are set to honor LeVar Burton with a Lifetime Achievement Award, TVLine reports.

The expanded Daytime, Daytime Creative Arts & Lifestyle, News & Documentary and Children’s & Family Emmy Award ceremonies are taking place in person this year, the past two years being held virtually as a result of COVID. This is also the first year the ceremony will include the launch of the Children’s & Family Emmy Award ceremony, the first expansion to the Emmys since 1979.

The expansion is part of a previously announced adjustment to the Daytime and Primetime Emmys. The 49th Annual Daytime Emmy Awards will now be held separately from the 1st Annual Children’s & Family Emmy Awards, with LeVar Burton set to be honored at the first ceremony with a Lifetime Achievement Award.

The Reading Rainbow host has received more than 20 Emmys over the course of his nearly five-decade career, recently set to return to the television screen as the host and executive producer of a new trivia game show “Trivial Pursuit,” currently being developed by Burton’s LeVar Burton Entertainment (LBE) alongside Hasbro’s Entertainment One (eOne).

Other Emmy Lifetime Achievement award recipients include Days of Our Lives actor John Aniston, tech entrepreneur Yvette Kanouff, sports journalist Lesley Visser, documentarian Sir David Attenborough, and renovation and remodeling show, This Old House, one of three television series including Sesame Street and 60 Minutes, that have received Lifetime Achievement awards from the National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences (NATAS).

Burton will be honored with his award at the Children’s & Family Emmy Awards on December 11th at the Wilshire Ebell Theater in Los Angeles.

So well-deserved! Congratulations, LeVar!
