Doctors, judges, astronauts, business owners, artists, pilots…. excellence.

This past Saturday, on the Southwest side of Atlanta, over 100 young people at Deerwood Academy were cheered on as they transformed from students into trailblazers in training. It was a celebration of dreams, a challenge to dream fearlessly and a full on display of community.

The event was the inaugural kick off of American Family Insurance’s One Saturday events and Because of Them We Can™ was proud to play a core role via our signature Reimagination Labs – an interactive experience that leverages props, costumes and the Because of Them We Can™ book to help children reimagine their possibilities by teaching them about people past and present who accomplished great things.

Atlanta Falcons staff and players, Mohamed Sanu and Vic Beasley came out, along with a drove of American Family Insurance agents, educators, the superintendent of Atlanta Public Schools and other community volunteers.

The day started off with a roll out of red carpet and went up from there! From a welcome by Sanu and Beasley, to our Reimagination Labs, and its mini graduation ceremony to mark their transformation capped off by one big outdoor celebration.

With the right support, any dream is possible. We need more of this. More people who get it. More community. More dreams. More support for our youth and more support for one another.

Special thanks to Principal Perry, Ms. Rice, Ms. Wynn and the rest of the Deerwood Academy educators and staff members who do the work to inspire and motivate our youth on a daily basis!
