As if we need any more proof of how great of an impact civil rights icon John Lewis has made and continues to make on the world. This weekend, Lewis’ award-winning graphic novel “March”, a trilogy series about the civil rights movement, soared to the number one spot on Amazon’s Best Seller list. Last November, “March” won a National Book Award for Young People’s Literature and became the first graphic novel to receive the honor. In addition to the novel selling out on Amazon overnight, Lewis’ 1998 published biography, “Walking with the Wind: A Memoir of the Movement”, became Amazon’s second best seller. It is also currently sold out on the site.

In both books, Lewis shares his experiences in the civil rights movement, where he was one of the original freedom riders, led the first Selma to Montgomery March (known as Bloody Sunday), and became the youngest speaker at the March on Washington.

Whether Lewis is urging young people to vote, leading a sit-in to protest for gun control legislation, wearing the same outfit he wore on “Bloody Sunday” during the historic 1965 march in Selma, Alabama to Comic Con (pictured above), he has continued to use his platform (and his twitter fingers) to connect with and inspire the next generation of activists.

There are still individual books in Lewis’ “March” trilogy series available on Amazon.
