Black Girl Excellence: These Three Ghanaian Girls Got Accepted Into Yale, Harvard, And MIT

It’s college acceptance season and young Black students all over the world are receiving some of the most promising news of their young lives. Some of America’s most prestigious universities are admitting high performing Black students from around the globe. Three recent examples include Ghanaian students Afia Sarpong Frimpong, Katia Maame Dufie Osei, and Isabelle Quaye, who were each admitted to Yale, Harvard and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), respectively.

Each of the young ladies performed exceptionally well on the SAT exam and have been admitted into multiple top universities. Osei is one out of 1,961 students admitted into Harvard University out of 42,749 applicants. She is one of the few Ghanaian female students to also be admitted to the institution on full scholarship. Frimpong is among the 2,229 newly admitted Yale University students and will also be attending the school on full scholarship. Quaye, having been one of the top achievers in her high school and on national and international platforms, has secured her seat in MIT’s first-year class while also entertaining admissions offers from California Institute of Technology and Princeton University.

Much of each young lady’s preparedness can be accredited to their participation in AFEX Test Prep, an educational enrichment agency based in Accra, Ghana with satellite locations in other areas of the country. The organization has been credited with assisting many African students to successfully pursue educational studies in the United States. The resources, awareness-raising information, and standardized test prep certainly assisted these promising students with positioning themselves to be acknowledged by such sought after U.S. educational institutions. News of their acceptances have also sparked an enormous amount of support and encouragement via various social media platforms.
