It’s another milestone for “Girls Trip”!
Today, the hit comedy passed the $100 million mark at the domestic box office. The incredible feat comes almost a month after the film scored the biggest opening weekend for a live-action comedy so far in 2017 with $31.2 million. Produced by Will Packer and directed by Malcolm D. Lee, the film follows four best friends from college (played by Regina Hall, Queen Latifah, Tiffany Haddish and Jada Pinkett Smith) who reunite after five years to take a “Girls Trip” to the annual Essence Festival in New Orleans.
According to Deadline, the comedy is Packer’s “third title to cross $100M after ‘Ride Along’ and ‘Straight Outta Compton’.” It is also “Lee’s top opening at the B.O. with $31.2M and his second movie after ‘The Best Man Holiday’ to earn an A+ CinemaScore.”
Packer took to social media to share the news, writing in an Instagram post: “I am SOOOOOO Proud of these four Brown Girls who did what they said couldn’t be done!!!! Help me congratulate them!!!”
