The Oscars Got It Right: 2017 Academy Awards Nominees

advertisement

January 24, 2017

Last year when the Oscars nominees were announced the Academy’s selection was noticeably missing something: diversity. So much so, that the President of the Academy, Cheryl Boone Isaacs made a statement that expressed concern of there not being one person of color nominated in 2016. Moving forward, she promised to “conduct a review of …membership recruitment in order to bring about much-needed diversity in (the) 2016 class and beyond.” The nominees for the 89th Annual Academy Awards were announced this morning and it appears the Oscars got it right.

The films “Fences, “Hidden Figures” and “Moonlight” received a nod for Best Adapted Screenplay and the Academy’s biggest nomination, Best Picture.
