Saving lives has no age limit; here's proof.
When the Barrington Apartments complex caught fire in Romulus, Michigan on Sunday night, 11-year-old RJ Stockton and 10-year-old Freddie King didn't hesitate to come to the rescue of the tenants inside. The two immediately took action, knocking on doors and running down the hallways to warn the residents about the fire.
"When we were walking, I was thinking just to help people," said RJ. "And we saw the smoke, then we went on the other side and saw the fire."
As a result, the young boys saved the lives of dozens by alerting residents to evacuate from the burning apartment building, where 24 out of 36 units were left completely damaged. Turns out, both RJ and Freddie have aspirations of becoming public servants in the future.
"(I want to be a) policeman so I can help people and (a) firefighter so no one will be in danger," said Freddie.
"I watch a lot of shows about lawyers and it's interesting," said RJ, who hopes to pursue a career in law.
The cause of the fire is currently being investigated and "the Red Cross is on site working to help the residents who are displaced," according to WXYZ Detroit. Check out RJ and Freddie's interview below.
RJ and Freddie, your courage and compassion to help others is an inspiration to us all. Keep dreaming big because it's only a matter of time before your aspirations become reality.
