Little Daliyah Marie Arana has big goals! At age 4, she has read over 1,000 books and is on a literacy mission to read 99,000 more. Her parents, who have been reading to her since she was born, have nurtured their daughter’s love for books by enrolling her in a reading program called 1,000 Books B4 Kindergarten. Daliyah entered the program at a Georgia Public Library at age two and completed it back in October. What does Daliyah want to be when she grows up? You guessed it, a Librarian.

Daliyah’s quest for knowledge and books afforded her the opportunity to spend the day at the world’s largest library with the first woman and African American Librarian of Congress, Carla Hayden. Hayden was sworn in as the 14th Librarian of Congress in September 2016. While there, Daliyah, who likes to check out books daily, served as Hayden’s “Librarian for the Day”. What an awesome way to empower the next generation! Who knows, we just might be looking at a future Librarian of Congress.
