This DC High School Gets A Surprise Visit From Michelle Obama
February 28, 2017 · BOTWC Staff
The former (and greatest) First Lady Michelle Obama continues to do what she does best: inspire the next generation. As she remains committed to the work, Mrs. Obama made a surprise visit to Ballou S.T.A.Y (School To Aid Youth) High School in Washington, D.C today. While there, she privately met with a small group of students and listened to their stories about reaching higher.
In 2015, Mrs. Obama launched the Reach Higher Initiative to encourage young people from the ages of 14-19 to pursue higher education. For Mrs. Obama, it was education that helped her, the girl from the South Side, to become the first African American First Lady of the United States. While she came to the alternative school to encourage the students to complete their education, she left feeling even more inspired. Press play to see a few photos from her visit.
Talk about a great way to end Black History Month! Mrs. Obama, thank you for continuing to use your platform to nurture and empower the lives of our young people.
