Simone Ledward-Boseman, the widow of late actor Chadwick Boseman performs an emotional tribute during the “Stand Up to Cancer event,” The Grio reports.

“Stand Up to Cancer” is an event that takes place annually to raise money for cancer research. This year, several of Boseman’s friends and co-stars, including Danai Gurira, Chris Evans, and Paul Rudd, participated in the production. Boseman passed away last August after a private four-year battle with colon cancer. His death shocked the world, and he is still being mourned by fans, friends, and most importantly, his wife.

Actor Anthony Anderson had the honor of introducing her at the event, saying, “Many of us were devastated to learn of Chadwich Boseman’s tragic passing after he privately grappled with cancer for several years. The world lost an incredible artist and a true hero. But before he was a public figure, he was a person like you or me – a son, a brother, uncle, cousin, friend, colleague, husband. Many of us are all too familiar with the fracture a dearly loved one’s passing leaves in the lives of those who love them. Here to perform a song about living with the reality of loss and finding a way forward is Chadwick’s wife, Simone.”

Ledward-Boseman, a graduate of California State Polytechnic University and a classically trained vocalist, performed an emotional tribute of “I’ll Be Seeing You” alongside her university’s jazz band. The song, written by Sammy Fain and Irving Kahal in 1938, has been covered by Tony Bennett, Billie Holiday, and Frank Sinatra.

“I’ll be seeing you in all the old familiar places that this heart of mine embraces all day through… I’ll find you in the morning sun, and when the night is new, I’ll be looking at the moon, but I’ll be seeing you,” the song’s lyrics ring out.

In Marvel’s animated series “What If…?” that was recently released, Boseman had his last vocal performance. Producer Brad Winderbaum spoke candidly about Boseman’s dedication right up to the very end.

“Each one was just a nuanced performance based on a lot of deep thought you could tell from his part and how we wanted to portray the character…it was frankly so humbling to know that he spent any time working with us,” Winderbaum said.

We are sending his wife and loved ones our love and support as they continue to heal.
