Mae Jemison

First African-American woman to Travel into Space.

Dr. Mae C. Jemison was born on October 17th, 1956. She was born in Chicago, Illinois. Reading was one of mae’s favorite things to do! Mae loved reading astronomy books. 

Mae graduated high school and started college at Stanford University where studied Chemical Engineering and African American studies. On Sept. 12, 1992, Mae Jemison became the first african-american woman in space, with the space shuttle Endeavour.

To this day, Mae wants students to love science and to believe in the impossible, “it is your place in the world; it is your life. Go on and do all you can with it and make it the life you want to live.”
