Run DMC

Foundational Hip Hip Group

For performers like LL Cool Jay, Beastie Boys, and others Run DMC paved the way. They helped to change the look and sound of rap. Not only did they break records for their albums and become the first rap group to make certain tv appearances and win awards, they also signed an endorsement deal with Addias and started a new fashion culture. This helped rap to become visual to a bigger audience.

Although each of the members had their own lives and recognition, together as a group, they made history. In 2002, Jam Master Jay was killed and the other two members reunited a few times after that. In 2009, they were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, becoming the second rap group with that honor. Their songs, styles, and influence can still be seen today.
