All of the seniors at Ballou High School in Washington, D.C. are reaching higher! For the first time ever, the high school’s entire senior class has applied to college. Coupled with its school-wide college push and college prep classes, AVID (Advancement Via Individual Determination), students are being encouraged to pursue higher education after high school. The school shared the exciting news on their Twitter page.

Ballou Principal Yetunde Reeves, said: “We have 189 seniors and this time 100 percent of them have applied to schools and we’re just waiting for acceptance letters to roll in.”
As a matter of fact, one of Ballou’s seniors has already been accepted into 11 schools, and another student, five schools. However, the seniors are not the only class making incredible strides. This year, 100 more Ballou juniors took the SAT. Despite words like violence and underperformance often being attached to Ballou High School, its students are defying the odds and looking toward a brighter future.
Ballou Vice Principal Shamble Straighter believes: “The major story we’re getting from this is that it’s not just this one class, it’s the entire building that’s shifting toward college.”
