If there’s one person in the film industry who shows no signs of slowing down, it’s Ava DuVernay. The visionary filmmaker has now teamed up with writer/director Victoria Mahoney and Charles D. King to adapt the legendary Octavia Butler’s 1987 science fiction novel, “Dawn”, into a television series.

Butler’s “Dawn” follows Lilith Iyapo, a young Black woman who finds herself working alongside aliens to restore the human race 250 years after a nuclear war. It is the first book of Butler’s Lilith’s Brood trilogy, which includes “Adulthood Rites “and “Imago”.
The series will be penned by Mahoney, who worked with DuVernay on the first season of “Queen Sugar.” King and DuVernay will executive produce along with Kim Roth, Poppy Hanks, Allen Bain, Gary Pearl, Thomas L. Carter and Teddy Smith. Forward Movement, Bainframe, Oil & Cattle and King’s company MACRO will produce.
This will be the first of Butler’s work to be adapted for television. Hopefully, it won’t be the last.
