Congratulations are in order!
A 16-year-old Washington, D.C. student is graduating high school early and has been accepted to 14 colleges, Fox 5 D.C. reports.
Curtis Lawrence III has been preparing for college since he was in the 7th grade. His mother, Malene, said she and his father started by helping him identify a potential major and goals. After Curtis decided he wanted to get his Ph.D., the family worked backward to set up a plan of action for him academically to help get there. At just 14-years-old, Curtis began taking classes at George Washington University.
“We’ve taught them from an early age that education is key to opening up the opportunities and having access to things that they want in life,” his father said of Curtis and his other son Corey.
The teen has garnered $1.6 million in scholarships, being accepted to 14 colleges, including Harvard, Yale, Howard, Morehouse, and Morgan State.
“First, I started off thinking about what schools had good biology programs. I started looking specifically at HBCUs because I want to have the HBCU experience, to be surrounded by the people who are just like me, who are not only Black but academically talented,” said Curtis.
