On Wednesday, the 24-year-old grammy-winning musician made a surprise visit to Chicago’s Adam Clayton Powell Jr. Academy to announce Google’s $1 million dollar donation to his arts education nonprofit, SocialWorks. Prior to his surprise visit, the school’s fifth grade students participated in a coding workshop led by Google employees.

“The grant will help teachers implement computer science and arts curriculum in their classrooms, and it builds on $40 million in Google.org grants that provide opportunities for students underrepresented in computer science to explore the field,” Google said in a statement.

The tech giant joins grocery store chain Jewel-Osco and the Chicago Bulls on the list of organizations who have donated $1 million dollars to Chance’s efforts to support arts education programs in the Chicago public school district.

“We’re honored to support SocialWorks’ mission to help underrepresented students in Chicago reach their full potential, as well as Chicago Public Schools’ efforts to turn computer science into a pathway for creative expression,” Google.org principal Justin Steele said in a statement. “There’s so much talent and creativity in the communities that these schools serve — and Chance the Rapper embodies what can happen when that creativity is unleashed. With exposure to computer science, students can use technology to turn their creative passions — whether that’s art, writing, music or something else — into something bigger.”

Google also donated $500,000 to CPS’ nonprofit charity, Children First Fund. With this donation, Chance the Rapper has now raised about $4.2 million for Chicago Public Schools. However, the year is not over yet and we have a feeling Chance has more giving to do.
