Dr. Charles F. Robinson was recently named Chancellor of the University of Arkansas by the UA board of trustees.
Dr. Robinson has been the interim chancellor since August 2021. For 23 years, he’s had the opportunity to fulfill many positions on campus, such as the director of the African and African-American Studies program, vice provost for diversity, vice chancellor for student affairs, and provost and executive vice chancellor for academic and student affairs, which all came after his time as an assistant professor in 1999. His research and studies include southern history and race relations, African-American studies, sexuality in history and civil rights.
Now, Dr. Robinson is entering a new chapter in one of the university’s top leadership positions. Robinson told KATV, “I’m looking forward to serving our campus in its entirety, and greatly appreciate the support and confidence shown in me to be a good steward of the Land-grant mission.” The proof is in the pudding! He started the readiness outreach program, College Access Initiative, for underrepresented students, led the main capital campaign for a $10 million scholarship initiative created for first-generation, low-income Arkansans, oversaw a $22 million project for the expansion of the Pat Walker Health Center, and collaborated on the creation of the student success center.
President of the university, Donald R. Bobbit, is excited to have him step into his new role, stating, “Dr. Robinson has proven to be a very good steward of the university and its Land-grant mission during his time as interim Chancellor. He now has the opportunity to cast a broader vision for advancing the university as a leading public research university in the region and raising its status on the national stage. He has a unique ability to inspire others and to relate to the many different constituencies across the university, and I look forward to working with him to help make his tenure as Chancellor a success.”
