Do you remember the gospel choir that performed at the royal wedding of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle? Well now they’ve signed a record deal with Sony Music.
“It’s been a roller coaster, but we wouldn’t have it any other way. First, the honor of being able to sing at the royal wedding, and then the thrill of being signed to Sony,” said choir conductor, Karen Gibson.
Since Gibson established the Kingdom Choir in 1994, the musical group has won BBC Radio 2’s Minstrels in the Gallery (a competitive religious music festival) and been nominated for the Oasis Awards’ Best U.K. Choir. The London-based choir has also performed with Luther Vandross, Elton John, and the Spice Girls.
During Prince Harry and Meghan Markel’s special day, they sang a stunning rendition of Ben E. King’s “Stand By Me.” The song reached number one on the Billboard gospel charts and will be the name of the choir’s debut album that will be released on November 2.
Gibson added: “It’s like an undreamt dream — one that you wouldn’t even consider, because you never thought it could happen to you. We’re very grateful and very excited about what’s to come in the next few months too.”
In the meantime, re-watch the Kingdom Choir’s royal wedding performance below and get chills all over again.
