Jay-Z continues to use his influence and resources for good. The business mogul recently engaged Team ROC, the social justice department of Roc Nation, to offer legal support to the family in Phoenix whose now viral video, captured their unfortunate encounter with police officers. In it the officers can be seen using excessive force and threatening gun violence against a couple and their children, all over reports that their 4-year-old daughter walked out of a dollar store with a doll.
Arizona Central reports that Team ROC “has secured high-profile attorney Alex Spiro to join the family’s legal team pro-bono and plans on filing against one of the officers for child neglect,” said Didier Morais, a spokesperson for the organization.
In addition to providing legal support, Team ROC also reached out to call for the termination of the officers and to “ensure the well-being of the children.”
This isn’t the first time Jay-Z’s Roc Nation has offered legal assistance in cases involving social injustices. Earlier this year they enlisted the services of Alex Spiro to have the case against the against the 6th grader who didn’t stand for the pledge of allegiance dismissed. And before that case made headlines, he formed a criminal justice reform organization with Meek Mill.
Whether it’s leveraging his resources to advocate for change, investing one million dollars in a Black owned business or exposing students to HBCUs around the country through his foundation, Jay-Z continues to show that being a successful businessman, also requires community involvement and investment.
