Yesssss Duchess of Sussex!

The Grio is reporting that Her Royal Highness (HRH), the Duchess of Sussex, Meghan Markle has just kicked off her Royal Tour of Africa with a trip to Nyanga, one of the oldest Black townships in Capetown, South Africa.

Markle and her husband Prince Harry visited The Justice Desk in Nyanga, an initiative under the Queen’s Commonwealth Trust, which helps to “bridge the gap between governmental policy and real-life experience” by educating, training, empowering and advocating for community led activists.

South Africa is currently dealing with a crisis of violence against women. Prior to the trip, HRH Meghan Markle and Prince Harry released a statement saying they would be going to see the Justice Desk “teach children about their rights, self-awareness and safety and which provides self-defense classes and female empowerment training to young girls in the community.”

The royal tour seems to be going normal, with Markle and Prince Harry photographed in their normal, light hearted manner, laughing and dancing with the locals. But the real magic came when Markle addressed a group of teenage girls affiliated with The Justice Desk.

Markle made a declaration of support and solidarity with the young girls saying, “May I just say that while I am here with my husband as a member of The Royal Family, I want you to know that for me I am here with you as a mother, as a wife, as a woman, as a woman of color and as your sister.”

The Duchess of Sussex has been working overtime to unite women across the world. In addition to her work as global ambassador for World Vision, advocate for UN Women, and consultant for One Young World, a U.K.-based charity, she also recently commissioned the “Forces for Change” as guest editor for the September issue of British Vogue.

Given the current climate in South Africa and around the world as we all fight for women’s rights, it is great to see HRH Meghan Markle continue to use her platform for good and represent as a Black woman for so many who need representation.
