It’s only right that the GOAT is back—this time with a mic!
Michael Jordan, the six-time NBA champion and five-time league MVP who redefined greatness, is stepping into a brand-new role as a special contributor to NBC’s upcoming NBA coverage, ESPN reports. The announcement came Monday during NBC’s Upfront presentation, with Jordan delivering the news via video and the network following up with an official post.
“A legendary addition to our team! We’re thrilled to welcome Michael Jordan as a special contributor to the NBA on NBC and Peacock,” NBC captioned the social post.
NBC’s highly anticipated return to NBA broadcasting begins with the 2025–26 season, marking its first time covering the league since 2002. Jordan’s role is still under wraps, but the symbolism is undeniable. The man whose career made NBA on NBC an era of must-see television is returning just as the network reclaims the rights to the game. This marks Jordan’s first television role covering the NBA in any form since his retirement in 2003.
Since stepping away from the game, Jordan hasn’t slowed down. He served as owner of the Charlotte Hornets from 2010 to 2023 and co-founded the 23XI Racing team in 2020 alongside NASCAR driver Denny Hamlin, proving once again that his competitive drive transcends the court.
Now, as NBC gears up to reenter the NBA landscape, there’s no better voice to anchor the comeback than the one who helped define the league’s golden age. From flying through the air in Chicago to making moves in the boardroom and beyond, Michael Jordan continues to be the standard—and now, a guiding voice for a new generation of fans and players alike.
