Everybody is doing their part!

Oscar winning actress Octavia Spencer recently announced a donation of breathing monitors to nursing and medical facilities in Alabama and New York fighting the coronavirus pandemic.

Spencer partnered with Mikucare, a company that specializes in baby monitors, to provide their state of the art monitors to medical facilities. The monitors track everything from breathing levels to sleep patterns, equipped with two-way talk and video capabilities that allow medical staff to communicate with patients without even being in the room.

“I, like many of you, have felt helpless in knowing how to help during this time. Seeing what is happening in the communities that I love, I have teamed up with @Mikucare to donate monitors to nursing and medical facilities in Alabama and New York to provide much needed relief to nurses as they navigate care for COVID-19 patients,” Spencer wrote on Instagram.

I, like many of you, have felt helpless in knowing how to help during this time. Seeing what is happening in the communities that I love, I have teamed up with @Mikucare to donate monitors to nursing and medical facilities in Alabama and New York to provide much needed relief to nurses as they navigate care for COVID-19 patients. Miku’s contactless respiratory monitoring offers the ability to detect nuanced changes in breathing patterns. With the understanding that respiration is one of the earliest indicators of illness, Miku’s breathing monitoring can indicate potential onset before other symptoms present. Miku’s two-way talk and video functionality also provides patients and medical personnel a method to communicate safely and effectively with those who have contracted the highly contagious virus. Please everyone do your part to stay safe and stay home in order to protect yourself and the ones you love most and I hope we can all find ways – small and large – to give back to our neighbors, family, and those on the frontlines. @baptist_health @montefiorehealthsystem

The “Self-Made” actor and producer went on to say that the devices offer “contactless respiratory monitoring [with] the ability to detect nuanced changes in breathing patterns…understanding that respiration is one of the earliest indicators of [COVID-19] illness, Miku’s breathing monitoring can indicate potential onset before other symptoms present.” She also added that the two-way talk and video functions allow the added security of allowing patients and medical staff  “to communicate safely and effectively.”

Spencer joins a number of celebrities stepping up to help in whatever way possible – from providing sanitizing products in underserved communities to donating safety goggles to medical staff, celebs everywhere are doing what they can.

The Alabama native ended her announcement by offering a little encouragement and a call to action. “Please everyone do your part to stay safe and stay home in order to protect yourself and the ones you love most and I hope we can all find ways – small and large – to give back to our neighbors, family, and those on the frontlines,” Spencer said.
