There’s a healthier sports drink in town!
NBA superstar Steph Curry and former First Lady Michelle Obama have joined forces to launch PLEZi Hydration, a new line of sports drinks created with wellness, flavor, and the future in mind, CNN reports. The collaboration is an extension of Obama’s broader initiative to promote healthier lifestyles, which began with her “Let’s Move” campaign launched during her time in the White House. Now, she’s offering healthier options for athletes as well.
Long known for his dedication to health and peak performance, Curry is bringing that same standard to store shelves, co-developing this new drink with his wife, entrepreneur and chef Ayesha Curry. The pair played a hands-on role in creating PLEZi Hydration, ensuring it lived up to both their nutritional expectations and taste standards. The drink debuts in three vibrant flavors — lemon-lime, tropical punch, and orange-mango twist — and is already available on Amazon and in select California grocery stores.
Priced at $2.29 for a 16.9-ounce bottle, PLEZi Hydration is entering a $25 billion market dominated by household names like Gatorade, BodyArmor, and Prime. But Curry’s version comes with a difference: double the electrolytes, zero added sugar, lower sodium, and higher potassium. It’s built for performance, but designed with wellness in mind.
“When we did a review of the market, a lot of the existing sports drinks have a lot of either high sugar or a lot of artificial sweeteners,” said PLEZi COO Anup Shah. “What we love about [Curry] is he brings credibility to the space… and he wanted to put out a product that was a better option for consumers.”
That authenticity is what sets PLEZi Hydration apart. Curry’s role isn’t just a figurehead — he and Ayesha are investors and brand partners, working closely with the PLEZi team to craft a drink that reflects their commitment to health, community, and innovation. Their involvement is already turning heads in the competitive world of wellness drinks, where names alone can carry multimillion-dollar weight.
And the timing couldn’t be better. With sports drinks expected to grow into a $32.6 billion industry by 2028, and major beverage companies like PepsiCo scooping up emerging health brands like Poppi, PLEZi Hydration enters the market with momentum and mission.
Initially launched two years ago as a better alternative to sugary kids’ drinks, PLEZi (a name inspired by the Haitian Creole word for “joy”) is now expanding its reach. The brand’s new portfolio, which includes PLEZi Fizz, a carbonated soda alternative, continues to reflect Mrs. Obama’s vision of empowering families to make healthier choices.
Steph Curry is no stranger to shifting culture — from three-point records to community investment — and Michelle Obama has long championed wellness for all. Together, they’re not just quenching thirst; they’re raising the bar. One sip at a time.
