It’s official! Dr. Carla Hayden is the first woman and African American Librarian of Congress

On Wednesday, Dr. Hayden was officially sworn in as the nation's 14th Librarian of Congress. Nominated by President Obama to lead the world's largest library, Hayden explained at her swearing-in ceremony: "As a descendant of people who were denied the right to read, to now have the opportunity to serve and lead the institution that is the national symbol of knowledge, is a historic moment." To celebrate the nationwide opening of “Hidden Figures”, we asked women in STEM (science, technology, engineering and math) to share tips on how young girls can pursue a career in these fields. The response was overwhelming. Check out a few of our favorites below. First tip I would give is to not be intimidated by math while you're in elementary, middle, and high school. Pioneering Nasa Mathematician Katherine Johnson + Hidden Figures’  Movie Poster= Everything!

Simply amazing! Pioneering NASA mathematician, Katherine Johnson, pictured in front of the movie poster for the film that will tell the story of her incredible contributions to the space program. The film, which will also depict Mary Jackson and Dorothy Vaughan's contributions to one of NASA's first successful space missions, is now set to have a limited release on Christmas Day and hit theaters nationwide on January 6, 2017.
