Houston Texans rookie quarterback Deshaun Watson is already using his platform to give back.
The 22-year-old recently donated his first game check to three NRG Stadium cafeteria employees who lost everything due to flooding from Hurricane Harvey. The ladies were overwhelmed with emotion as Watson handed them envelopes and explained why he was donating.
“For what ya’ll do for us every day, and never complain, I really appreciate y’all. I wanted to give my first game check to y’all to help y’all out in some type of way.”

Watson will never forget the time he and his family received a helping hand from former Atlanta Falcons running back Warrick Dunn, who helped Watson’s family receive a brand new Habitat for Humanity house in 2006. That moment changed Watson’s life forever as he said “the home gave him a chance to get out of difficult surroundings and start moving toward the goal of being in the NFL”, according to SB Nation.
Now, he’s the one lending a helping hand. Watson reportedly has a base salary of $465,000 that he receives in 17 game week installments; he split his first check of $27,353 three ways; therefore, the ladies received about $9,100 each.
“Hopefully, that’s good and that can get you back on your feet,” Watson said. “And anything else y’all need, I’m always here to help.”
