Congrats are in order for Marques Brownlee!
The professional YouTuber is on the cover of Fast Company‘s latest issue. The magazine boasts that his videos have changed the way people shop for gadgets—and how companies sell them. For anyone unfamiliar with Brownlee’s videos, he’s created a career out of tech reviews, which have garnered him 20 million subscribers across all channels and 3.83 billion total video views. His success led to a podcast, 13 employees, and a Shorty Award in 2019.
“Marques is an enthusiast,” says one industry insider about Brownlee. “He would be doing this even if he wasn’t filming it. It makes a huge difference to all the brands who have the opportunity to work with him, because they know he’ll approach their [products] with respect.”
Another added, “It’s important for us to understand what’s working and what’s not. The fact that he has that experience and expertise, it weighs heavily. We listen, we watch, we want those opinions.”
Brownlee hasn’t let it get to his head despite his success, which the article makes clear. When asked when he realized he was famous, he simply replied, “a lot of people who watch the videos and who enjoy learning about tech, and I think that’s pretty sweet.” He added, “I’m thankful that I’m not an actual celebrity because that seems miserable.”
