He told CNN: “It’s something I’m proud of because I see my hard work paying off, determination paying off, sacrifices paying off.”

Brown received his first acceptance letter back in December from Stanford University, and opened his 20th acceptance letter on March 28. His mother, Berthinia Rutledge-Brown, who works two jobs as a licensed chemical dependency counselor, filmed his priceless reaction to receiving his first of twenty college acceptances. (see it below).

“After sixth grade, Mike was in control of his education,” recalled Brown’s mother. “He was focused, he knew what he wanted and he made his own decisions.”

According to CNN, out of the 20 schools that Brown got into, his top choices include: Yale, Harvard, Princeton, Northwestern, Stanford, Georgetown, Vanderbilt and the University of Pennsylvania. Brown, who plans to major in political science, has until National College Decision Day on May 1 to make a final decision.

As a participate in organizations like QuestBridge, Emerge Fellowship and Breakthrough Collaborative, which places students from low-income communities with higher education opportunities, Brown said: “For me, it’s important to highlight that I’m not the only student of color who is achieving.”
