Now, this is how you keep students engaged!
A California principal performed for his students via Zoom in a new lovable viral video, Blavity reports.
Kenneth Deshone Farr II is the principal at St. David School in Richmond, California, the same school he happened to attend as a child. With the ongoing school closures and the reliance on virtual learning, Farr, like many other educators, has been looking for innovative ways to keep his students engaged and help them to find joy in this new normal.
Recently, junior high school therapist Priscilla Aguirre caught Farr in action, recording a video of him singing and dancing with his students to “Action Song” by The Singing Walrus. Farr can be seen standing up, encouraging the students to dance with him while chanting the words of the song – “I’m so happy. I’m so happy.” Blissfully unaware that he’s being recorded, Farr gets into it, and so do his students as he calls them by name, encouraging them, at one point telling them to “break it down.”
Aguirre clearly understood the value of this moment, uploading it to TikTok with the caption “…Co-teaching with my human has been a blast.” The video became a hit, going viral with more than 360,000 views, 11,000 comments, and more than 24,000 shares. When Farr learned of his newfound fame, he took to Facebook to thank people for their support and remind everyone that the students are what is most important.

“When we needed a teacher, we weren’t finding the best fit, so we did what we had to do! We decided that if we did this together, we would have the capacity to give our students what they need during these challenging times. Thank you, TikTok friends, for dancing with us in the morning and showing our TikTok so much love! We’re both so grateful for our students and for our ‘Little School Up On the Big Hill!’ None of this would be possible without the St. David School community and family!” Farr said.
Thanks for all you’re doing, Principal Farr! Because of you, they can!
