Legacy, legacy, legacy, legacy. Black excellence, baby, let them see!

A new viral video is really capturing the essence of HBCU homecomings! If you’ve never been, it is the lifeblood of historically Black colleges and a time where students, faculty, staff, and alumni all descend on campus to celebrate the rich cultural heritage of their college or university.

This past weekend, Florida Agricultural & Mechanical University (FAMU) showcased a historic moment as a father and son duo kicked off homecoming the right way.

In the video, Mr. Antonio Rivers can be seen decked out in a tracksuit donning the FAMU colors. He leads the marching band with his whistle and drum major staff in tow. While cutting up in sync with the team, Rivers turns around to queue up drum major Avante Rivers, as the announcer notes that the two are father and son. The crowd erupts in cheering as both Rivers men join for a duo performance before Avante takes it away and shows them who’s in charge now.

It was a literal passing of the baton and a beautiful moment of legacy for the Rivers duo. The true magic of what homecoming season is all about. FAMU’s Marching 100 said it was a first of its kind moment for the school.

“This homecoming these two made history as they shared the first moment in history where a father and son brought it off together at yesterday’s homecoming. Congratulations Mr. Antonio Rivers and his son Avante Rivers,” the band posted.

Check out the heartwarming moment below.
