On Monday, user @_ErkyRy shared a heartwarming video of her mother ringing the end of treatment bell to mark the completion of radiation treatment – and it was 15 seconds of PURE. JOY. So much in fact, that an overwhelming amount of internet users joined in on her celebration of becoming a cancer survivor.

Today my Mom is CANCER FREE… No more breast cancer,” Lyriq wrote in an Instagram post. “40 treatments (of) radiation every day… 3 appointments in 1 day… skin burning from your radiation… nails turning from your chemo… GUESS WHAT MA!! IT’S OVER…YOU FINISSSHHHHH BABY. Thank you Lord.”

The bell-ringing tradition started at the University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center in 1996 after U.S. Navy Rear Admiral Irve Le Moyne, who was receiving treatment for head and neck cancer, added a brass bell to the campus’ Radiation Treatment Center. Telling the doctors that sailors traditionally ring the bell when they finish the job, Le Moyne did the same when he completed his treatment. This week, it was Lyriq’s mom’s turn to ring the victory bell.
