When Angela Peters, who has cerebral palsy, made a recent visit to Da-Vi Nails inside of a Walmart in Burton, Michigan, she was denied service because “she moves too much,” Tasia Smith, who works at the store’s Subway, shared in a Facebook post.
So what did Ebony Harris do? The Walmart cashier offered to paint Peters’ nails on her break, telling ABC News: “I knew her from her coming in here shopping. I’ve helped her shop a couple of times. I just wanted to do her nails, and I didn’t want her day to be ruined.”
Harris helped Peters choose a blue glitter polish from the store’s shelves and gave her a manicure at a Subway table inside the store. That’s when Smith captured the sweet moment.
Tara Aston, a Walmart spokesperson, said: “Ebony simply wanted to make sure our customer’s day was special, and that’s the kind of person she is — someone with a wonderful attitude who goes the extra mile each day to make those around her feel important. We’re not surprised at her act of kindness.”
Both Harris and Peters hope that their impromptu nail session will inspire people and send a positive message, Harris explaining:
“We’re not trying to bash the nail salon. We’re not trying to make them lose customers, make them look bad. But maybe spread awareness that no matter the person, who they are, what color they are, disability, whatever, they’re people too. She’s a girly girl. She’s just like you, me, Tasia, my daughter, anybody. She wants to look pretty, you know, and so why can’t she?”
