Watch: 17-Year-Old Surprises His Mother And Aunt With News That He Got Accepted Into Morehouse College

17-year-old Barrington Lincoln waited until Christmas day to tell his mother Lisa McDonald and his aunt Shirley Gray that he got accepted into his dream college of Morehouse, an all-male historically Black college located in Atlanta, Georgia. 

“They’re the two most important ladies in my life, and they’ve just done so much for me in my lifetime,” St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports Lincoln saying in an interview. 

From Lincoln’s mother working late-night shifts and long hours to put him through private school, to his aunt being there whenever he needed anything, to them both helping him cope with losing his father to leukemia during his sophomore year. 

“I just wanted to, not really reward them, but show them that everything they’ve done has paid off,” said Lincoln, who is senior class president at Lutheran High School North in St. Louis.

Lincoln held in the exciting news of his Morehouse acceptance for a whole 10 days. Let’s just say when he finally told his mom and aunt in the form of gifting them with a “Morehouse Maroon Tigers Mom” and “Morehouse Maroon Tigers Aunt” t-shirt, the wait was well worth it. Their reactions were priceless, especially when they both realized that the shirts meant Lincoln got accepted into Morehouse. Watch the video below. 

“I view Morehouse as a paradise for a young Black man seeking success,” he told S. Louis Post-Dispatch. “They produce individuals equipped to change the world.”

Lincoln hopes to become a management consultant and then one day, the NBA commissioner. But for now, he’s still basking in the moment that he got into his first choice school, and so are the “two most important ladies” is his life.
