For many, Disney’s Hercules is more than just a movie, it’s a cultural staple. The 1997 animated film won hearts with its soul-stirring gospel-inspired soundtrack, and chorus of Muses. Now, that beloved story is getting a Broadway-style reimagining aboard Disney Cruise Line’s newest ship, the Disney Destiny.
Debuting this November, Disney Hercules is a live theatrical adaptation created exclusively for the ship. The show promises a bold reimagining of the original film, complete with live vocals, aerial stunts, and jaw-dropping visuals. Songs like “Zero to Hero” and “I Won’t Say I’m in Love” are getting new life, with the same soul and flair that made the original a classic.
Directing and choreographing Disney Hercules are brothers Kevin and Marcel Wilson, who bring decades of professional experience to the production. As Show Directors and Choreographers, their work spans stage and screen, with credits including The Lion King on Broadway, So You Think You Can Dance, and performances with icons like Beyoncé, Whitney Houston, and Janet Jackson. Their creative vision brings both polish and power to the show, grounded in deep roots in pop, gospel, and theatrical tradition.
“The show’s already there, but we wanted to add our own flavor and bring a more modern feel to it,” Marcel told Because of Them We Can. “We grew up loving the music—it’s always been a part of us…Being part of a show that feels so nostalgic—and being able to bring our fresh take to it—is really special.”
Broadway performer Corey J. Bradford stars as Hercules, becoming the production’s Black lead. He called the moment a “dream come true” in a recent Instagram post.
The Muses return as narrators, this time in high-fashion looks, while mythological creatures like the Hydra come to life through award-winning puppetry. But the magic doesn’t stop with the show. The Disney Destiny itself is packed with new experiences inspired by the theme of “Heroes and Villains,” from a Black Panther-inspired Grand Hall to a De Vil-themed piano lounge, the ship blends myth and magic across every deck.
Set to sail four- and five-night cruises from Fort Lauderdale, the Destiny will visit Disney’s private islands, Castaway Cay and Lookout Cay at Lighthouse Point. Guests can also enjoy other onboard shows like Frozen, A Musical Spectacular, plus a wide range of dining, relaxation, and entertainment options for all ages.
“Whether you have kids or not, you can really have a great time on this ship. There’s so many opportunities for everybody to enjoy themselves,” said Michael Serna, Executive Creative Director of Disney Hercules.
