The Thompson sisters are taking the library to the people!

Through Seas the Day Mobile Library, they transformed a retired school bus into a mobile learning space for children and families in Oklahoma City. The bus is filled with books, computers, STEM activities, and resources for students who may not always have easy access to a traditional library.

The idea was inspired by Teresa Day’s childhood memories of a bookmobile that visited her neighborhood in Texas. That access stayed with her, and years later, it helped spark the vision for Seas the Day Mobile Library.

Day and her siblings purchased an old school bus from a church for $1,000 and turned it into a space where children could read, learn, and explore. Today, the bus visits schools, daycares, apartment complexes, and communities where resources may be limited.

The mission is simple: make literacy and STEM education more accessible. Along with books, the mobile library also provides technology support, including computers and internet resources, helping students stay connected and engaged.

For families who live far from a library or do not have reliable transportation, Seas the Day Mobile Library is meeting them right where they are.

What the Thompson sisters created is more than a library on wheels. It is a reminder that access can change everything, and sometimes, bringing the books closer can open up a whole new world for a child.
