Major Jewel McDonald has reached a rare milestone!
At 110 years old, the Mississippi native is now recognized as the oldest known living man in the United States, following the passing of Edwin “Ed” George Martin in July 2026.
The Gerontology Research Group reports that McDonald was born in Louisville, Mississippi, on November 1, 1915, to Henry and Georgia McDonald. After spending many years in Ohio, he later returned to Louisville, where he now lives.
In November 2025, McDonald celebrated his 110th birthday with family and friends, officially becoming a supercentenarian. The Gerontology Research Group notes that his age was verified by Oliver Trim and Dr. Waclaw Jan Kroczek and validated by GRG on November 2, 2025.
The recognition comes after the death of Edwin “Ed” George Martin, who had been the oldest known living man in the U.S. GRG reports that Martin joined the ancestors in Lehigh Acres, Florida, on July 24, 2026, at 111 years and 159 days old.
Now, McDonald’s life stands as a testament to longevity, history, and the generations of family and community connected to his story.
