Emeri Cotton is running with purpose!
The 8-year-old track star from Bear, Delaware, recently traveled more than 1,000 miles to compete in the AAU Junior Olympic Games in Des Moines, Iowa, and she did not leave empty-handed, NBC10 Philadelphia reports.
Cotton won both the 100-meter and 200-meter races in her age division, making her one of the top young runners in the country.

Her performance also made history. AAU’s national records list Cotton’s 27.99 time in the 200m as a national and Junior Olympic Games record for the 8-and-under girls division.
In an interview with NBC10, Cotton said her focus was simple: breaking a record. And that is exactly what she did.
We can’t wait to see how her career continues to evolve.
Congratulations, Emeri!
