Fred Richard is heading toward Worlds with a new title to his name.
The Olympic bronze medalist claimed his first U.S. all-around title at the 2026 Xfinity U.S. Gymnastics Championships in Phoenix, scoring 170.015 across two days of competition.
According to USA Gymnastics, Richard finished nearly three points ahead of the rest of the field, making his first U.S. all-around title one to remember.

Richard opened the competition strong, leading after Day 1 with 84.326 points through six routines. Reuters reported that he held the lead despite two 0.3-point deductions, including one for improper attire and another for failing to salute correctly after his pommel horse routine. He also posted the highest floor score of the day with 14.758.
By the end of the competition, Richard sat at the top of the men’s all-around standings with 170.015.

The win adds another major milestone to Richard’s growing résumé. In 2023, he became the first Black American man to win a World all-around medal. A year later, he helped Team USA win bronze at the 2024 Paris Olympics, the U.S. men’s first Olympic team medal in gymnastics since 2008.
The Xfinity U.S. Gymnastics Championships also carried major weight for what comes next.
The event page notes that athletes were competing for spots on the 2026-27 USA Gymnastics National Teams and a shot at the American roster for the 2026 World Artistic Gymnastics Championships in Rotterdam, Netherlands.
For Richard, this latest title is more than another medal. It is another reminder that he is helping bring new eyes, energy, and history to men’s gymnastics.
