Black tennis had a weekend to remember.
At the Cincinnati Open, Coco Gauff, Arthur Fils, and Frances Tiafoe all gave fans something to celebrate as the tournament wrapped with history, representation, and championship-level tennis on full display.
Gauff closed out the women’s side with a dominant win over Jessica Pegula, defeating her 6-2, 6-4 to claim her second Cincinnati Open title, AP reports. The win marked Gauff’s 12th career singles title and gave her major momentum heading into the U.S. Open.

On the men’s side, Arthur Fils defeated Frances Tiafoe 6-3, 1-6, 6-0 to win his first ATP Masters 1000 title, Reuters reports. It was a major breakthrough for Fils and another strong run for Tiafoe, who reached his second Cincinnati final.
But the moment was bigger than the scores.

Fils and Tiafoe’s matchup marked a rare and powerful moment for Black men in tennis, with two Black players meeting in the final of one of the sport’s biggest tournaments. Alongside Gauff’s championship win, the weekend became a reminder of the visibility and impact Black players continue to bring to the game.
For Gauff, Cincinnati has become a special place. She won the tournament in 2023 before going on to win her first U.S. Open title, and now she is leaving Ohio with another trophy and another statement win.
For Fils, the victory marked the biggest title of his career so far. For Tiafoe, the final was another reminder that his game and presence continue to help push men’s tennis forward.
Together, Gauff, Fils, and Tiafoe gave Black tennis fans a weekend full of pride.
Three players. Two finals. Two champions. And one more reminder that Black tennis is still giving us so much to root for.
