A Different World is heading back to Hillman!
Netflix released the official trailer for the sequel series, bringing a new generation of students to the beloved HBCU campus.
The new series follows Deborah Wayne, played by Tony Award winner Maleah Joi Moon, as she begins her freshman year at Hillman College. The series will follow Deborah as she works to build her own legacy while navigating the shadow of her parents’ history at Hillman. Netflix describes her as free-spirited, well-intentioned, and rebellious, with a big heart and a path she is still figuring out.
For longtime fans, the return to Hillman is a full-circle moment. A Different World first premiered on NBC on September 24, 1987, and became a defining series for generations of viewers who saw HBCU life, Black friendship, love, culture, and coming-of-age stories reflected on screen.
The sequel premieres September 24 on Netflix, exactly 39 years after the original series debuted, Entertainment Weekly reports.
The new series also brings back familiar faces, including Jasmine Guy and Kadeem Hardison, while introducing a new class of Hillman students for a new generation.
