It was his first nomination as well!
Lamorne Morris is an outstanding actor and comedian who has been making waves for more than a decade now. Best known as a breakout star on the hit Fox show “New Girl,” Morris followed up with another starring role on the comedy-crime drama “Fargo.” Now he’s won his very first Emmy for best-supporting actor in a limited series for his role as Deputy Witt Farr in the series, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
“Oh my gosh! Oh wow!” Morris exclaimed before thanking God during his acceptance speech.
He went on to thank his mom and four-year-old daughter, Lily, infusing his unique brand of comedy into his remarks.
“I also want to thank God for my beautiful mother, who raised me. She’s been my biggest champion ever since I…you know, came out…you know, I dropped out of her butt. I know where babies come from!” Morris said to peals of laughter from the crowd.
“ [And my] beautiful daughter. I love you. I told you I would do it. You’ve always doubted me. I’m here, I’m your leader,” he added jokingly.
Morris admitted that he was actually shocked to receive his first Emmy nomination.
“I was very confident in my performance on the show – confident in everyone’s performance. To me, it was a tossup. I thought obviously Jon [Hamm and] Juno [Temple] [would be nominated], since they were making waves earlier in awards season. That’s why when I say I was in shock, I mean, I was in total, total shock,” he previously told reporters.
Morris continued thanking all of his cast members during the Emmy acceptance speech and recognized his nominated peers, including Robert Downey Jr., who he begged to sign the poster he has of him in his house. As the music played, signaling the end of his time, Morris promised to deliver more gratitude on his podcast “The Mess Around.”
Congratulations Lamorne!
