Antoinette Harris Aspires to Become the First Woman NFL Player, and She Knows She Can Do It

With dreams of becoming the first woman to play in the National Football League, Antoinette “Toni” Harris, has received not one, not two, not three, but four college football scholarship offers. Her first came from Bethany College’s National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics’ (NAIA) program, the second from Adams State University, the third from Graceland University, and the fourth from Kentucky Christian University. 

Harris, a free safety at East Los Angeles Junior College, is the second woman to receive a college football scholarship. Arizona kicker Becca Longo was recognized as the first in 2017 when she signed to play at Adams State University in Alamosa, Colorado. Harris made history the same year as East Los Angeles College‘s first woman football player. 

When the 22-year-old is not blazing her own trail on the field, she’s excelling in school as an honors student who studies criminal justice. 

In a recent interview on ‘Good Morning America,’ Harris said: “No one else’s opinions matter about your dreams. You can tell people what you want to do, you can tell them how you feel about it. But you shouldn’t have to fight to have people understand your vision. It’s your vision – it’s not for them to understand. It’s something that God gave you for you to go excel at. That’s why I’m speaking, to let everyone know nobody’s going to decide where I’m going to go in life – that’s my decision.” 

Harris recently shared her incredible story in Toyota’s Super Bowl commercial, which she hopes will inspire people to dream big. She said, “My ultimate goal is to excel at a four-year (university) and become the first female NFL player. I know I can get there.”
