Laulauga Tausaga-Collins Makes History As First Woman To Win World Discus Title For Team USA

Laulauga Tausaga-Collins had a day to remember this week when she earned the gold medal in the women’s discus at the 2023 World Athletic Championships in Budapest, Hungary, CNN reports.

Tausaga-Collins’ win marks the United States’ first-ever world championship gold in women’s discus.

The Hawaii-born champion locked in her exciting win with a throw of 69.49 meters. That throw topped her personal best by nearly four meters.

Tausaga-Collins took to her Instagram account to celebrate her win, reposting several Instagram posts from other accounts detailing her history-making win.

“I can’t tell you what it means right now because I still can’t believe it,” Tausaga-Collins told USA Network about earning her gold medal. “I have all the feels and no words. It’s amazing!”

Tausaga-Collins graduated from the University of Iowa and was a 2019 NCAA champion. She previously won the gold medal at the 2022 NACAC Championships.

And now she has added to her gold medal collection with her amazing performance at the 2023 World Athletic Championships. Congratulations Laulauga!
