Tonight’s the night! The new docu-series “Black Love” from newlywed filmmakers Tommy and Codie Oliver premieres at 10 p.m. ET on the Oprah Winfrey Network.

The four episode docu-series features Oscar winner Viola Davis and husband/actor Julius Tennon, actress Tia Mowry and husband/actor Cory Hardrict, actress Meagan Good and preacher-producer husband DeVon Franklin, plus several other Black couples. In it, the couples share their love story and answer the question: “What is the secret to making a marriage work?”

In 2007, Codie became inspired to create a documentary about celebrity Black love and love from the Black community.

“There was this narrative in the media of a ‘black marriage crisis’ and especially that Black women were the most alone,” Codie told ABC News. “I felt the headlines were very damaging. It felt like the media was telling me I can’t do it, and the divorce rate is high, so what’s the point?”

However, Codie, who met her future husband Tommy at the Toronto film festival in 2013 and married him in 2015, noticed a shift in the idea about Black love after Barack Obama was elected as President of the United States in 2008.

“It was very clear that we needed to see that,” she said. “I felt seeing is believing.”

We couldn’t agree more. Check out the extended first look of the docu-series below.
