Mark your calendars because “Young Love” premieres on September 21.

Creator Matthew A. Cherry recently took to Twitter to share the first trailer for his new animated series about a young Black family living on the west side of Chicago.

The trailer gives an honest, heartfelt, and funny glimpse into the lives of Black millennial parents Stephen Love (Scott “Kid Cudi” Mescudi) and Angela Young (Issa Rae) as they navigate the relatable ups and downs of modern life with their daughter Zuri (Brooke Monroe Conaway).

The show continues the story of the Academy Award-winning short film, “Hair Love,” and is suitable for the entire family. Kids and adults are bound to relate to the close family and their many relatable storylines.

The series begins with Angela figuring out her career as a hairstylist as she lives in remission from cancer. Meanwhile, Stephen is attempting a career in the competitive music industry. Then, of course, there’s their daughter, Zuri, who is experiencing all the challenges that accompany growing up.

Cherry is a Chicago native, and a former NFL wide receiver turned filmmaker who played for the Jacksonville Jaguars, Cincinnati Bengals, Carolina Panthers, and Baltimore Ravens.

He notably raised over $280,000 on Kickstarter to make the award-winning short film “Hair Love,” making it the most-funded short film in Kickstarter history. The short was also adapted into a picture book, where it became a New York Times Best Seller and earned nominations for a Goodreads Choice Award and an NAACP Image Award.

If “Young Love” is anything like “Hair Love,” we’re all in for a treat.

I wonder if the show was pitched to Fox animation or TBS?
