“Forget Me Nots” singer Patrice Rushen rounds out the list of honorees.

The soulful melodies of R&B, the high energy of funk, and the edifying power of gospel will all be celebrated at the 9th Annual Black Music Honors! This prestigious event recognizes the legendary artists who have shaped and influenced generations of music lovers.

This year’s honorees—Johnny Gill, Bootsy Collins, Hezekiah Walker, and Patrice Rushen—represent the very essence of Black music’s diversity. From smooth vocals to captivating bass lines and inspirational anthems to infectious grooves, their contributions have left a notable mark on the world stage.

“We are extremely proud to bring more visibility to these tremendous icons,” says Black Music Honors founder Don Jackson. “Their lives and stories are part of the beautiful tapestry of Black music, which has impacted the globe.”

The ceremony, co-hosted by singer LeToya Luckett and comedian DeRay Davis, takes place on May 18th in Atlanta, Georgia. Expect a night filled with stellar performances, heartfelt tributes, and a celebration of Black musical excellence.

The Black Music Honors isn’t just a one-night event. The televised special premieres on June 1st on the Stellar Network and will air in national broadcast syndication throughout June, coinciding with Black Music Month. Bounce TV will also broadcast the program on Juneteenth as a fitting tribute.

This event promises a night of unforgettable music and a powerful reminder of the enduring impact of Black music on a global scale.
