“Get Out’s” nominations include: Best Picture, Jordan Peele’s nominations for Best Director and Best Original Screenplay, and Daniel Kaluuya’s nomination for Best Leading Actor.

For “Mudbound”, Mary J. Blige snagged two nominations, one for Best Actress in a Supporting Role, and the other for Best Original Song. Dee Rees received a nomination for Best Adapted Screenplay along with Virgil Williams, and Rachel Morrison, received one for Achievement in Cinematography. This makes Rees the first Black woman to receive an Oscar nomination for Best Adapted Screenplay, and Morrison the first woman to receive an Oscar nomination in cinematography.

The other nominees that will be bringing Black excellence to this year’s Oscars include Octavia Spencer, who joins Blige in the Best Supporting Actress category for her role in “The Shape of Water.” Denzel Washington joins Kaluuya in the Best Leading Actor category for his role in “Roman J. Israel, Esq.”.
