November 26, 2020

She’s a force to be reckoned with.

Symone D. Sanders is a political strategist who served as senior advisor for President-elect Joe Biden’s 2020 Presidential campaign. Sanders is the owner of 360 Group LLC, a strategic political and social consulting firm. She rose to prominence in 2016, serving as National Press Secretary for Senator Bernie Sanders presidential campaign, making history as the youngest person to hold the title at just 25-years-old. Now Sanders is on a short list of possible candidates for the White House press secretary role, The Grio reports.

The Biden-Harris staff is already shaping up to be the most diverse cabinet in American history, with a transition team that’s composed primarily of women and people of color. If Sanders becomes WH press secretary, it would be another historic move for Biden, Sanders becoming the first Black person to hold the title.

“[Symone is] lightning-fast smart, one of those people who, whether you’re in just conversation or sparring, you really gotta keep up. She is always a half-step ahead, if not a full step ahead,” said Ed Gillespie, former White House aide to President George W. Bush.

Sanders has a particular interest in juvenile justice, serving as the former chair of the Coalition of Juvenile Justice Emerging Leaders Committee and former member of the Federal Advisory Committee on Juvenile Justice, where she helped to give voice to young people and millennials in justice spaces. She also served as a resident fellow at Harvard’s Institute of Politics at the Kennedy School and at the University of Southern California’s Center for the Political Future.

The former CNN commentator said that most of her motivation comes solely from her belief in the next generation of change-makers and her desire to actively partake in that change.

“I am motivated by the simple fact that someone fought, marched, cried, prayed and spoke up so that one day I would be able to do the same for the next generation…I am optimistic, and maybe it’s because I’m one of those millennials that feels like we can change the world, because I absolutely believe that we can,” Sanders said.
